It’s my day off, the sun is shining, (still a bit chilly mind), and I had my eyebrows waxed this morning so I’m feeling preeetttty good right about now.
My outfit although a little overly adventurous for the current temperature, has got me thinking about the warmer weather and some of my favourite summer outfits.
I am a massive advocate of a dress. Mostly because I am a lazy girl, and often can’t be bothered to pair items from my wardrobe together. Dresses are just so easy! Throw it on and go is definitely my vibe.
But, I am an even bigger advocate of a white dress. So this is a post dedicated to my favourite white dresses.
I’ve chosen 3 dresses from my real life wardrobe, and 3 dresses that are currently online. (And I really want all 3 of the new ones, someone please stop me).
What is it that is so utterly satisfying about our gloried white dress?
For me there’s a few things.
1 – Crisp white cotton is such a super lovely fabric to wear. Soft against your skin, temperature regulating because it’s a natural fabric. No sweaty polyester smells welcome here, thank you very much.
2 – On a sunny day, white looks particularly radiant as it reflects the sun-light! (But you all already knew that anyway), so if you’re wanting to wear something that is going to make you look like you’ve had a refreshing nights sleep, even if you’re not feeling overly bright and breezy then white is a great place to start.
3 – It’s also a great layering base, meaning that if you’re into mad accessories, (any accessory for me is a bit mad, I stick with hoops and a plain chain), you can work away and layer up the jewellery.
4 – Similarly, you have the world at your feet when it comes to picking shoes. Whether you want to dress up and wear heels, keep it summery with sandals, or keep it super casual with pumps, vans, converse, whatever choice almost guaranteed will look great.
5 – It’s a flattering tone for everyone, whatever your skin tone, white will look good. (I am including off white and some cream dresses in this post also, so if you are very pale and the idea of wearing white terrifies you, try one of the slightly darker toned options).
(One day let’s hope there’s someone to take my picture wearing them instead of hanging them out on the shed)
If you are after a new white dress, just a couple of things to look out for.
Lining! If it’s not lined, it’s probably not worth buying.
Underslip! Yes, you’ll sound like a 90yr old rocking up to the undies section of Marks & Sparks but get yourself a good petticoat and you’re sorted.
All these dresses here are actually fine without a slip (except for The White Pepper one). It’s worth checking what they’re made of, if it’s cotton, you probably won’t be flashing your knickers which is always a winner.
White dresses are just great.
They make you feel fresh, look smart, ridiculously ladylike, and you can dress them up (or down) however you feel.
Let me know your thoughts on your favourite summer staple!
